Touro SGA
Todd Hayano - SGA VP of Athletics
Monday, November 19, 2012

In a repeat of last year, the Turkey Bowl Flag Football Gods were once again up to their old bag of tricks.  With a torrential downpour and strong winds gusting, our players and fans braved through the elements to witness a battle between wide-eyed newcomers (First Years) and experienced vets (Second Years).  The First Years fought hard, but were no match for the savvy Second Years who were able to repeat last year's victoriours ways.&n...

Vi Levy, MPH, OMS2 – Former SGA VP of Archives
Tuesday, February 07, 2012

I was reminded that the new SGA executive committee was officially taking over when Jen Higa sent out her first bolus email last week. That was on the official transition date of Wed, Feb 1st.. Since then, we've had a massive budget meeting (last Thursday), and today the new SGA board led their first senate meeting! However, both current & former boards are all still working together to make sure the transition is a smooth one.
I wanted to q...

OMM Interprofessional Workshop: A Student Pharmacist’s Osteopathic Awakening

Touro SGA
Benjamin Malcolm PharmD/MPH Candidate 2014
Sunday, January 22, 2012

“What makes a Doctor of Osteopathy different?”
The room fell silent. Only the sound of pizza being masticated could be heard in the crowded OMM lab. 70 students from all over the university, all aspiring to be healthcare professionals of varying disciplines, and they appeared to be stumped by this alarmingly simple question. Now, to be fair, most were probably like myself and had a vague answer swirling somewhere in their mind and ju...

New TUC Commencement Site!

Dr. Marilyn Hopkins, Provost & COO
Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Touro University California has conducted our commencement ceremonies in The Grove on campus for many years. It is a spectacularly beautiful venue. However weather can be a serious challenge as was the case last year. Shortly following our June 2011 commencement ceremony, I appointed a Taskforce from our Executive Council to search for an in-door venue for future university commencements. Sites all over the Bay Area were considered and visite...

Turkey Bowl results

Monday, November 21, 2011

The Ninth Annual Turkey Bowl Tournament was held on Saturday night on the Mare Island Football Field and the results were stunning. First year students walked away as victors in all four games. It's not uncommon for first year students to do well, but to have the second year students lose all 4 games was history-making.

The first game between CEHS first and second years started at 7:00 p.m. and was played in a steady down-pour. Both teams h...

Dodgeball tournament outcome

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

OK. It's time to confess. Growing up, I was never been a big fan of dodgeball as a sport. My experience with dodgeball prior to us starting this tournament years ago was encapsulated in the image of a freakishly costumed Ben Stiller acting like a blowhard moron in the movie. What I've learned is that not only is it as physically challenging as some of the more "traditional" sports, but there are clever strategies that can be used to be succes...

It’s been awhile since the last SGA update on TU student life, so here’s what we’ve been up to recently!

Prior to the sparsely populated February 2nd SGA candidate speeches, the majority of the new SGA board had assembled together with visions of intercollege collaboration and similar goals prior to elections. Their slogan, “many professions, one voice” gave them their election platform name of “One Voice,” a group identity promoted on the web and on posters throughout the halls of campus buildings. Only two positions ran opposed in the onli...
